On February 24-28 2011 the EUROCLIO/Open Society Institute Project “History that Connects” will have its firstRegional Work Ses-sion and Management Meeting in Sarajewo. This project that is the direct follow-up of the EUROCLIO/Matra project “History in Action”, but the focus will now be on developing methodological and curricular guidelines on how to teach sensitive and controversial issues, alongside the production of new teaching material. The title is “Stock-taking, Selecting and Initiating for the Production of Teaching Material”. The meeting especially aims to debate, reflectand lay-out a clear and operable understanding of what is sensitive and controversial history; to involve from all perspectives a broad list of topics, themes and events that are sensitive in the project region, with a focus on the period 1900-1945; to identify and start the inclusion of teaching material for the Historiana framework; to work on on-going capacity building of the Albanian, Bosnian, Croatian, Kosovar, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Serbian and Slovenian History Educators Associations, as well as the overall regional capacity and the capacity of individual professionals; to re-engage with cross-border grassroots civic engagement and networking; to present, update and share the current state of history education is-sues of the participating countries and finallyto share and reflecton international expertise involving the learning and teaching of sensitive and controversial issues. EUROCLIO, in cooperation with its Polish partners, organizes the 18th EUROCLIO Annual Conference in the beautiful historical surroundings of the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understand-ing in Europe. Participants will be offered an inspiring Conference programme including guided tours of the Krzyżowa estate and the city of Wroclaw to get a unique insight into the local history and heritage, round-table discussion with Polish and German history educators and civil society actors to learn about cross-border initiatives in the fild of history, heritage and citizenship education, an engaging workshop to create a “Compass for Responsible History Teaching” in a Globalizing Society, inspired by the EUROCLIO Policy 2020. The costs for the event are € 300, - for a double room and € 350, - for a single room including two nights’ accommodation with breakfast and meals at the Krzyzowa Castle, the on-site learning, as well as your pick-up from and to the airport of Wroclaw. We have launched a new Survey toadvise and examine how history teachers use underlying themes of migration in their work in classrooms and seminar halls. The survey will form part of our continuing programme Experiences and Perceptions of Migrations in Europe, funded under by the EU's Europe for Citizens Programme, and supported by , EUROCLIO, working in partnership with the Europaeum and the International Students of History Associations ISHA.

This Project was supported by the Visegrad Fund and it was realized in the time framework of the year 2009-2010.  EUROCLIO is pleased to announce that the Second Seminar within the EUROCLIO Initiative “Historiana.eu” has been approved by the European Union and is registered in the European Union´s Comenius and Grundtvig Catalogue under the course reference number: NL-2011-220-001! The event will take place on January 20-23 2011 in Istanbul, Turkey. Historiana is an initiative of EUROCLIO, the European Association of History Educators in which an online, interactive, multimedia tool will be developed as an alternative to a European textbook. Since January 2010, a team of editors and contributors from more than 15 countries are working together to develop the first materials focused on the theme “People on the Move” which will be online during the Seminar. |
